Model 27 - should I be worried?

I have a new Model 27 Classic Series and noticed the end of the ejector rod, the knurled section has rubbed a small section inside the upper portion of barrel shroud. Possibly by rotating, or under recoil/flex. The ejector rod is straight, the barrel is not over torqued and is perfectly straight. The gun functions perfectly.

Is there anything to be worried about here, is this something extremely out of the ordinary? I would have never noticed untill I got a flash light out haha.

Is this a new revolver, or did you buy it used? I'm not sure where the mark came from, but I doubt the extractor rod would be able to "flex" to the point of contacting the shroud. Perhaps someone inserted a metal object between the rod and the shroud, creating the scratches.

From the photo, it does look like the extractor rod is a bit short, and that the front locking lug has not been fit properly. It appears the lug is just barely interfacing with the end of the rod.

The gun is new, I bought it last week from Buds. Should I send over these 2 pictures to S&W?

If it's new, I certainly would. I would take photos of any other damage you may find. And, while you are at it, also mention the pins and pin holes in the front sight and the front locking lug. Both locations appear to be scratched and damaged. That damage shouldnt be there.

Will do, the front sight pin is perfect, no scratches (it's a roll pin, not a solid pin), I guess it just looks that way from the picture. The locking bolt pin does look like it was hammered in rather crudely. I just hate to send it off to the factory, I hope they do a good job and don't mar anything else in the process.

The locking bolt pin has been in and out several times by the looks of the damage to the barrel.....taken out by someone who didn't know what they were doing. The extractor rod looks strange also....like its not new.

I ordered new from Bud's and was the first to open the box when it arrived at my FFL. It was brand new, after unboxed you could see 3 soot/blast rings on the front of the cylinder indicating 3 rounds fired during test fire at the S&W factory. I've put 150 rounds through it, and worked the ejection rod quite a bit.

Speaking of the marring around the locking bolt pin. I looked at 3 other Model 27's and 2 Model 586's and all of them have marring/punch makes around the locking bolt pin. I wonder if the guy that does this at the factory was trained, or given the wrong training? These were all 2016 made guns.
