I just watched the 2010 remake of George Romero's mostly overlooked effort of 40 years or so ago.

It had my new favorite actor, Timothy Olyphant, as a beleaguered small-town Sheriff who loses his Glock and has to make do with his Dad's old service revolver.

Yes, the movie is silly and over-the-top but it ends with a bang and the Sheriff does some fine work with the old Smith.

Plus, there's a little bit of Raylan Givens and Seth Bullock to be seen.

It was a good flick for sure. I also liked how you tell the Glock used in the highway seen had night sights.......... It was a nice touch from Hollywood, considering a lot of times they overlook the fact that most service pistols are so equipped.

Revolvers often turn up in "Zombie" type films and stories. (The mall guards in the "Dawn of the Dead" remake all had them.) It serves as a means of increasing tension via limiting the shots that can be fired I suppose.

I didn't really understand the movie mind you, got it from Redbox so I was only out a dollar. I don't see how they'd have kept thing secret with that many troops involved including aviation units, since people would talk, and someone has to fuel and service those helos. And the film was unclear as to whether the underlying agent was airborne or just being carried in the water.

The Crazies (1973) is such a good flick. Of course, I just love Romero's films. His latest of the "dead" series, Survival of the Dead, comes out on DVD this August I believe. His "dead" series is just amazing. Diary of the Dead is the only movie filmed to look like it was shot with a home camera that I like.

By the way, the reason I don't visit western PA is because of Romero's movies. ;)

I haven't checked out the Crazies remake yet, but I'll add that to my list.

I will definitely see it.

I liked Olyphant in Deadwood. I thought he played his character well.

I like the Romero movies, I grew up on monster movies (they kinda grow on you) Ill have to check it out, especially if any Smiths are in there.

Spotting S&W's in movies is, to me, like being a welder for 30 yrs., I always notice the weld characteristics when I look at machinery or products that are welded. Remember that 67 I spotted on a soap opera. I think they should use more 65's though. hehehehe.
Peace,

+1 for Olyphant. Thought he was pretty good in "A Perfect Getaway", too. Has sort of a laid back, Eastwood-like quality. Enjoyed "Justified", wonder if there'll be a second season.

I'll second that. Seems every time I find a good show............

So I actually sat there and watched a horror movie with my wife last night. It was The "Crazies". It was pretty good. Then all of a sudden he's grabs a snub Model 27 and goes to work on these zombies! That sure got me interested! I FINALLY found just such a gun and was pleased to see Oliphant put his to good use against those creeps. Now, if he only used that gun in Justified.
Oh, here's my "new" 27-2 for the thousandth time. How come I never get to shoot zombies?!
