Model 28-2 Manufacture Date?

Picked up a mod 28-2 with s/n: N246723, crappy photo attached. Any help with the date of manufacture would be appreciated.

Interesting. I don't doubt your word, but what is the source for this information? SCSW says 1974 starts with N200000. There is a note that says that most of the numbers from about N250000 to N299999 were assigned to the HP and the Model 58 .41 Magnums, and some of these were shipped as late as 1977.

I'd like to update my personal data list, but would like to know the source.

1974 starts at N200000
or
1974 ends at N190,000

Seems to be a pretty big difference. I certainly do appreciate the input.

My SN is N2094xx and I felt comfortable that I had researched it to be a '74?!?!?!?

For what it's worth, N245869, M-28-2, shipped
March, 1976. Never bet on S&W either way, but being
that close, I'd say you can safely guess your's was shipped in 1976. However, the only way to really know is with a factory letter.

Ah! That's from a letter I presume? Thanks. That's pretty darned close!

Heck, it could have been made in 1975 and didn't ship until 1976, but at this point, It's close enough for government work. Thank you all!
