HP prices

Going rate today for an HP like these ( excellent plus) would be $550 for the 6" and $650 for the 4" :)

The average price on a m28/6" blue 98%\99% is $695. No box/tools
The average price on a m27-2/6" blue 98/99% is $795. No box/tools.

Subject to change.

Only thing I would add is that "Early" dash 28-2's came with diamond Magnas where late production "S" prefix guns came with non diamonds.

If an early gun with OEM numbered diamond grips gets about a $100 premium over a later version IMO.

thanks for all the info. the $ is $600 firm that seams a little high ?

I recently gave $500 for a 28-2 4" barrel with bluing loss/holster wear at muzzle and cylinder. Incorrect after market grips. I thought I bought it at market value. Have since added Grashorn ram;s horn grips. For an S serial and matching grips, I'd jump on it for $600. Can you offer $500 and be prepared to move up? I love my 28.

If you don't plan to shoot it much, and will sell it if the right buyer comes along, then $50 or $100 may make a difference. If you plan to shoot it and keep it for a long time, the cost of the ammo you put through it will make $50-$100 in the price insignificant, IMO. Not saying pay a stupid price, but if you want it and you're not worried about collector or resale value, will you regret not getting it for another fifty bucks?

I would get rid of some of my Smiths on a trade for a Smith I needed (wanted) more. My 6", 28 no dash (1960) will not leave me. I bought it on G.B. some years back. It was my 1st of many S&W purchases. Bob

Is it in Michigan? Sounds like the one I have listed on a local message board. Serial number is S285xxx, which dates it to 1966-67, according to my SCOSW. The non-diamond magna stocks are original and numbered to the gun. Here are pics to help get a better appraisal from the experts ;).

It's price vs how much business you give the dealer too. The more business you give him he drops the price.

My online guy is spot on his condition ratings. Most conditions are above 99%. I want the best condition that I'm paying for I accept nothing less.
I'm very fussy and picky on the condition. I'm not a collector I want the most bang for my dollar.

Picked up this one 3 months ago. No box. No tools. About 98% with a 4 inch barrel. Picked up its twin Summer 2014 with a 6 inch barrel. Paid $365 each for them. The 4 inch is 1970 and the 6 inch is 1978. There are a lot of these 28-2 guns here in Georgia.

They must have all moved down to middle and South Georgia because they're not in metro Atlanta.

You maybe right get away from the city dealers and see what the country gun shops are asking. I think anything under $1,000 for any N Frame in excellent condition is a steal.

The N Frame Smiths have been popping up around here this past year. The owner of my LGS told me yesterday that he got in a nice 629 with the original S&W wood grips (lots of value there) last week. It lasted one hour and went out the door for $600 plus tax. I got this one last week for $535 plus tax. . .a 1993-1994 with horrible but original rubber grips. I actually let this one sit for over a week because I didn't really want it. Bought it last Friday because it just didn't seem right to let it sit in the PS any longer. The guy that bought the $600 one said that they were all in the $1000 plus range in Macon. . .the good older ones that people want. I'm sure that Atlanta is higher than that. Pays to live in the sticks.

Given good mechanical condition if I saw the gun described @ $600 in my area I'd probably put my shoulder out going for my wallet. ;)

Granted I live in Kalifornistan... :(
