My first post, but I have been viewing this forum for a while, and you guys helped me decide to pick up a M&P 340 a few months ago. Much thanks.

I just got a kick in the gut with my Model 29-3 with a 10 5/8 barrel and I am hoping for some more insight from the forum.

A LGS recently pointed out the barrel has a slight bulge. I was shocked. I measure the bulge at .018 inches over nominal diameter, which is hardly anything and probably why I never noticed. I bought the gun used over 30 years ago, and I've let so many people shoot it over the years. Looks like a squib bullet got stuck and someone pulled the trigger without noticing. Like I said, kick in the gut. It is still accurate. I shot a 3 inch group at 50 yards off of a bag last week.

I have hunted with it in the past, but haven't hunted with it in years so it is a range gun lately. It has sentimental value with all the memories, but that has lost the luster now that I know about the bulge. I see similar barreled guns get bids online for great prices. I am talking to S&W now to figure out my options, but a replacement barrel will be shorter. I would rather give it away before I deceive anyone, so full disclosure if I sell. I am not sure what Value I actually have.

I am struggling with what to do:
Keep it as is
Replace the barrel and keep it
Replace the barrel and sell it
Sell it as is and take a hit

What would you do and why? Thank you in advance,
Glen
