Model 29-5 question

Were any 29-5 Smiths with 8 3/8" barrels factory ported? Serial number is BFW6494. Thanks

I've never seen one before and I checked the Standard Catalog and there is no mention of 29-5 with a ported barrel. Having said that, the one thing to remember is never say never with anything S&W.

I thought they made a Hunter version years ago with a ported barrel but cannot find any reference either. Guess I will ask Smith to do a research letter. Thanks

I wouldn't shy away from Magnaporting either way, but might not pay a premium, especially if your concern is resale value. My Anaconda is Magnaported and it feels like shooting a 38 Special.

I've never seen a ported 8 3/8-inch. I'd try Lew Horton first. Over the years they had a lot of Smiths ported. Their letter is free, and you'll know over the phone in a few minutes. S&W charges $50, you have to wait months, and if it was ported by their distributor they likely won't have a record of it anyway.

No porting on this 29-5 # BER 24xx. Porting usually occurs on shorter barrels. Joe
