I'm home in Pennsylvania visiting family and always like to check the local gun shops while I'm here. I stopped at one and they had a nice model 29 with a six inch barrel for sale and it was priced at $899.00. Is this s good price for one of these. It is an 80s model at least from looking at the orange sight insert.

I don't want one but that seemed low since K-22s sell for that where I'm from and I'd think a model 29 would sell for a bit more. And from what I hear from a couple of guys looking for 44 magnums they aren't incredibly common in the Smiths.

Just curious.

I have a track on the dash three. The 6-1/2 inch barrel was discontinued by this time.

• 1979: 6-1/2" barrel length dropped in favor of 6" as standard barrel length.
• 29-3 (1982): Eliminate cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel with small change in cylinder length to 1.69".
Supica, Jim; Nahas, Richard (2006-12-20). Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (p. 185). F+W Media, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

Here's the track:

Smith & Wesson 29-3 6-in Barrel: Revolver in .44 Magnum. Blue Book of Gun Values (35th Edition) indicates between $650 in 95% condition and $850 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 18 recorded prices for this model gun from $543 to $1085 over a period of 1 Yrs 5 Mos ending March 8, 2015. The average price as of that date was $797. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for import location or other engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $574.

I don't have enough prices to suggest a trend but I'd say the average is reasonable. I'd expect really good dash threes to be poking toward or above $900 depending on condition, tools, papers, box. The usual.... :)

I wouldn't be surprised that any 6 inch or 6-1/2 inch dash two would command a higher price range.

I put a 29-3 6" on layaway last month for 749.00. It has a little bit of holster wear but it's gonna get carried a lot by me anyways so I didn't mind much.
