Model 30-1

I know a guy who says that he has a model 30-1 in 32 caliber who wants to rechamber it for the 32 H&R Mg.

I have a model 31-1 that is the same frame and cylinder length as my 631 in 32 H&R Mg. so there should be room enough for that in the 31-1, but I am not that familiar with the model 30-1.

I do have an older model hand ejector in 32 S&W Long that has a somewhat shorter cylinder than the 31-1 or the 631. So what is the story on the model 30? Fjestad says that it is chambered in the 32 S&W (absent the "long")

Does anyone here know the story on the 30-1/31-1/hand ejector models? I do know that the HE was an I frame gun, so was the 30 also an I frame gun?

The Model 30-1 is chamber for the 32 S&W Long cartridge, just like the 31-1.
They are both J frame pistols (the -1 was added when the Improved I Frame was discontinued and these models were put on the J frame). with the 30-1 having a shorter round butt for better concealment. The 31-1 having a square butt that is a bit longer. I knew a person at a gun range who in 1995 had converted his 31-1 from 32 Long to 32 H&R Mag and he said it worked just fine. Of course, I never saw him actually fire the pistol.

Thanks for the information, I wondered about the Fjestad discription where they said 32 S&W as I have not seen any I or J frame Smith's in 32 S&W (the short round) .

Must be some kind of editors error.
