To those Smith historians out there:

1. What was the Model 337 PD?

2. Why did they quit making them?

Put me in the know if you will please.

"That is all!"

SCSW shows a 337PD introduced in Jan. 2000, with a black finish and the natural light gray titanium color of the cylinder. To hazard a guess (perhaps not helpful), is it possible this model would have conflicted with the 360 in .357?

My 337 is an earlier model, with AirLite Ti marking on the sideplate, no IL, and the silvery frame color.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all Forum members.

Hi. Your 337 looks just like mine, which I also bought "pre-owned." Am interested in what ammo you use that does not "jump the crimp" when firing. I had a problem with this and found W-W white box 125gr JHP to be ok. It's very mild, however. Happy holidays!

I have never experienced crimp jump with my 340 pd no lock or my 337ti with any ammo including range 38 reloads. Also never in my 325 sc or 325 pd 4". Is it possible that my grip is strong enough to prevent it?

In all honesty, I do not shoot this gun very often at all. I have other J-frames that are much more enjoyable at the range. To answer your question, I have only used Speer Gold Dot "Personal Protection Short Barrel" .38 SPL+P 135 gr. GDHP in this gun. I haven't had any problems with that ammo and have read really good things about it's performance.

Thanks for your feedback! To answer, wish I knew. If I were an inexperienced handgunner, this might be the case, but I've been shooting for decades, including heavy kickers that have to be gripped tightly. With me, maybe it has something to do with the titanium cylinders since my 2 new M&P 340s with steel cylinders do not "c-j" with 110gr Mag ammo, the load I have always wanted to carry in a lightweight snub mag.

Gonna hafta get my 337 and 342 back to the range to experiment with other loads, even LRN service ammo. Really hurts to shoot these two, while the 340s do not bother me. Go figure...

Thanks again, and happy holidays to you and yours!
