I just took ownership of a 3 screw, square butt Model 34-1, 2" barrel, with Serial # 494XX. How do I find its birthdate?

Assuming you left out the "M"? If so,it's circa 1972.

Most of the Model 34 serial numbers begin with an M.If it doesn't have an M,then we look in a different place in the book.

Ok thanks Camster. No M...just the serial number behind the ejector and on the butt of the gun. But no M in either place.

On the piece that swings out with the cylinder (forgive my ignorance!) is the serial number 494XX.
On the butt is the M494XX
