I purchased a 36-2 that appears to be in excellent condition with very minimal use (barely a turn line) but noticed that the cylinder locks up simultaneously with the hammer reaching full lock when slowly cocking it in single action. Based on my brief review, the cylinder does lock on each chamber when the hammer locks but the two seem to happen at the same time.

By comparison my 686-6 cylinder locks up well before the hammer reaches full lock in single action.

Is this just a difference in the clockwork?

A minor point - the correct term is lockwork. Normally the cylinder can be made to lock up earlier in the cycle with a slightly wider hand. Usually .001 or .002 wider will make the difference. This will be determined on a case by case basis, as every gun is an individual entity on the granular level.

Lol...I can thank spellchecker for changing lockwork to clockwork (it just did it again and I needed to change it back).

I've seen oversized hands for the K/L/N frames but not for J frames.

Do you know where I can find one?

I don't know of any wider hands for J frames. They will vary slightly just because of manufacturing tolerances. You can order another one, but no telling how wide it would be. If you measure yours, I will see if I have a wider one in my spare parts.

A temporary field fix is to bend the current one very slightly to the left. The hand won't bend, but the pivot pin will. You can leave it on the trigger and bend it by hand or with pliers. It only takes a tiny amount.

I appreciate the help. I'm picking it up on Saturday so I'll report back after giving it a closer inspection.
