Model 36, Detective Special or Model 10 snubs?? What's Your Favorite??

Went to small local gun show today.....

Tossed between a very nice 10-5 2" snubby and pristine Model 36 with box (not matched to gun), all papers and wrapped toolkit.

Already have 19-5 and 66-4 both in 2-1/2" which are mostly relegated to range duty so I walked out with the 36 for about $200 less than the best haggle price for the 10-5.....it was a struggle though!

Very nice! I have a blued and nickel 36 no dashes. Both square butt snubs.

I just posted a thread about a gun show I went to two weeks ago and there were like 20 mint condition guns I wanted to leave there with. There were probably another 20 or 30 long barrel guns that were mint too. Never seen so many beautiful old revolvers in one place ever!

Theres the link if you wanna check it out. Too many to rewrite.

Speaking of the Model 49 (the M38, and M49 are up there on my favorites list too), I came across this on GB (just looking!):

I forgot when I replied, I see so many great guns on Gun Broker and Guns International all the time. There are just a ton of beautiful guns. I just see model after model get snagged up before I can afford to get it myself. I almost hate looking, but I have to know how often certain guns are available and in what conditions. I see sooooo many!

No, the picture that I use as my avatar is from a publicity still from an old TV show, "M Squad", from the late 1950s.

Here's a short clip from one episode...not a very good one, but I can't seem to find any right now....

M SQUAD [1957-1960] - YouTube

In this show, Lee Marvin played Lt. Frank Ballenger of a special squad of the Chicago Police Department. I always liked Marvin, he was a Marine in WWII, and was wounded in the fighting on Iwo Jima, IIRC.

I have the whole series on DVD!!

I watched a few clips on YouTube! It looks like a great show. I love those shows, but that one isn't on YouTube. I'd love to watch that series.

My first snubie was a model 10 2 in square butt. Wish I still had it moved on to J frame and it got swapped in. The model 10 jusr looks like something off an old black and white Police Detective movie

Yes...I had read your thread top to bottom and appreciate the effort and detail contained in the OP.

So, now I also currently own 2-36's (1 RB and 1 SB), 2-60's (both ND), a 60-15, and a 19-5 and 66-4, both snubs. Yes, I know that I am sorely missing an L or N-frame for range toys rather than for carry. While I generally purchase "shooter-grade", this recent 36 acquisition will, most likely, be relegated to safe queen status.

I tend to avoid the large shows at the Ohio State Fairgrounds....too many people, too much temptation. The smaller shows sponsored by "Spec Ops" tend to be somewhat more "intimate" and are run by a dedicated team of gun enthusiasts. I have never gone wrong doing a deal here.

That being said, I have seen more desirable S&W's at the last 2 shows in Hilliard than in recent memory. This includes several excellent condition large-frame Smith's of varying calibers, many in presentation boxes, along with the usual complement of J's and K's both in used, NIB and LNIB condition.

Hoping that the 10-5 will still be there at the next show in April...wishful thinking.....

I will defer to my range master in the police academy who had over 30 years in law enforcement and made several island landings with the USMC in WWII who told me "i would rather have a mother in a cat house than a partner with a Colt revolver". Those words still ring true today.

Dang that sucks. I agree on the black and white movie/TV show look. Although I have seen 36's on the shows/movies too, the 10 and DS are more common.

Shoot, I hope it is too! I'm hoping for a beautiful polished 80's Model 686 snub stock with magna grips to be at the next show in September I go to. It could be, he had all the same stuff from last Sept a couple weeks ago and more so I'd say it's a decent chance. I sincerely hope you are able to get it.

Haha, I'll have to remember that one. I guess I know what your choice(s) would be in this post then!

I'm a model 10 fan. But I have and do carry sometimes a 642.

I think I missed your comment, sorry about that.

I absolutely love the Model 10 snubs a lot. I love square and round butt versions. I do not yet have one but I plan on having a few one day for sure. I really badly want a blued RB snub with the pinned barrel a lot. Don't have the funds for it, but one of these days I'll get it. Once I get a model 10 I plan on carrying that too. SB is hard to conceal in my waste band, I've tried Wil my Model 15 snub, but it sticks out too much. So for now I carry the Chiefs. I like them because they are a perfect pocket revolver. I love that they can, slip onto my pocket and be hidden. Whenever I take my dog out I throw one in my pocket because we have coyotes and weird people that hang out in the empty dead end road behind me. I really can't wait until I get my first Model 10 RB snub. It has been a favorite of mine for years.

Since MOST of my shooting is done at the range, I prefer a K frame. We are all different! Have a 10-5 R.B. that shoots quite well for me. Also a 66-2 (also shown) Bob
