Looking to get a value on my Model 36 no dash Chiefs Special that was made in 1977. Box is marked G-1184Has the original box and paperwork. This looks like it was test fired then put back in the box. Just a super faint line on the cylinder and zero bluing wear.

Anyone have an idea of today's value?

Real world price? You aren't going to like it. I sold it's exact twin a couple of weeks ago. I probably started at $600 and also listed it on the forum here - no buyers even after I dropped down to $550. I finally sold it locally for $500 and was happy to get that.

Wow that is a lot lower then I figured. Guess I'll hang on to it then.

Thanks for the reply Earl.

Last year, I made a terrific score on an "as-new" (but no box) vintage Model 36... so good that no one believes me about it. ;)

But more to the point of the thread, I spoke with a local dealer who just recently sold two of them: $500.00 each plus sales tax.

Last year, late summer I finally added a 36 no dash to my collection. I found a pristine one, barely a turn line. Like new condition, no box or paper work. If memory serves it was $450 out the door. They are beautiful little revolvers and WAY more accurate than one would ever imagine. I say keep it...or give someone the thrill of purchasing their first "Real" S&W , and for starting their addiction to the finer things in firearms.

I'm guessing your serial number is in the J5XXXXX range, ya?

Nice as they are, and even though the barrel is still pinned, that doesn't seem to be a highly sought after era for Chiefs.

I've watched several in relatively equivalent condition to yours go for a bit above $500 this year on Gun Broker. I've also noted a few sellers who think they have $700 guns sit on them because nobody's willing to open bidding at that level.

It's J6303XX if that helps.
