I am looking at a Model 36 555xxx and have a question when they switched from the diamond stocks. This particular 36 does not have the diamond stocks. It comes with box and all the documents.

The diamonds went away in 1968, 555xxx should have been manufactured before that. (According to SCSW, no prefix numbering stopped at 786544 in '69)

My M 36 RB 547XXX, has been dated to 1968 and a half.
No flat latch and no diamond grips.

:) I will agree with SWID but look and see if the grips
are numbered to the gun. Don

Well, the grips are numbered to the gun. I am going to purchase it.Like I said it comes with the box and documents.

Also it is a square butt and no flat latch.

I finally picked her up. She sure is sweet. I rate her 98%. The question is to shoot her or put store in the safe. I am leaning towards shooting. What do you guys think?

I bought a '73 edition Model 36 a couple of weeks ago. It's been to the range with me three times since then and has rapidly become one of my favorites. Shoot it, I say.

Unless its extremely rare and / or absolutely pristine .... shoot it. Another member was showing his engraved gun on here. He takes it out and shoots it and then cleans it to the 9's .... that's what you're supposed to do with them ....imho

I'd say shoot it. You're not decreasing the value of a slightly used gun by shooting it as long as it is properly maintained. In the future, you can avoid this dilemma by not buying NIB guns - I have a few and wonder why I have them for this exact reason!

Nice! I just bought this one a couple months back. No box and some pitting, but I have shot a couple times and love it.
