Model 36 square butt

I've run across a neat little 36, blue finish in square butt. I'd say about 98%, very little turn line. Excellent fit and lockup. No box, though that isn't a must for me. I believe I'll snatch it for a turn in my daily carry. A little pricey, but I love those j frames for personal protection.
My wife carries one daily, she took the one I had years ago. I've missed it, so I believe I'll add this one. Hard to pass up a 36 in excellent shape. By the way, not that many square butts, is it?

$500.00 out the door. It is a late '75 or maybe early '76?
serial #j2626-- That's a little overboard in one way, but in the Carolinas that's about what you have to pay.
At least that's what I see in the pawn or gun stores around here.

I filed the hammer down on the one my wife carries in her purse.
Wondered at first about light hammer strikes, but after over 700 rounds of mixed ammo, never had a problem.

$500 is top of price range around these parts and thats lnib.
350 for a shooter/carry $450 for 95-98% in original box.
but if you want it there only gonna go up in value and yes square butts are rarer.

I paid $350 for mine, in similar condition, about five years ago. Prices may have risen, but $500 seems a bit high. Nice little gun, though. Carried mine today.

I have two myself , as well as two round butts . The square butt is so much easier to shoot , it just fits in the hand better. I bought both my square butts last year , both are about 96% give or take, no boxes, and I think I am in them around $ 400 each ,give or take a quarter.

I have bought several guns from two different pawn shops. They are about 75 miles apart, but the same distance from my home. Usually, they are within $20 dollars of each other. Generally they stock some nice S&W revolvers.
I haven't gotten a lemon from them yet, and am well satisfied with my purchases. I get a break on all my ammo, and some other supplies, so I don't get too vocal about their prices. When trading a gun, I have always been satisfied with what they gave me. So that being said, I will probably pick up the 36 next week if still there. If not, I'll wait until another comes along. I'm not in a rush.

Most of my J's sport round butts and I do prefer the look and pocket carry comfort with them on, I do own two J's (3" bbl's) with square grips and they are much better to shoot with and absorb recoil much better than the RB versions. If you do not pocket carry, SB J's are the best - because in an OWB holster it is a non - issue.

Ordered my 1st Model 36 Square Butt from Gil Hebard in 1966 to carry in SE Asia. Sold it in 1971 and always regretted it. Square butts are hard to find around here so when I found this pristine model at a gun show, I bought it to replace the one I sold. The square butt is more comfortable to shoot for me but the round butt is a bit more concealable for carry. I like them both.

I prefer a square butt 36 when that's what I'm carrying, but when I'm carrying one of my round butt 36s (or 37s), that's what I prefer. Sometimes I carry one of each.

$500 around here would be top price. The round butt is used, about 75% condition bought for $199 two years ago. The square butt is about 90%, bought at the end of 2013 $350

I prefer the palm swell of the round butt

I only have 1 J Frame. Thought about a 3" 36-1. Bought a 2" round butt. Put banana target grips on it so I have more to hang on to. I don't expect it to be anything more than a shooter. I do like it myself though! Bob

The 3" barrel gives you 150 extra feet per second of velocity. The box is a pain in the butt to keep but I have heard it's worth $50, I have no idea why. This is not a collector's gun, it's a hardcore, up close, self defense weapon. I would walk over a mountain of 380 autos for one model 36.

Agree totally, Will Carry. And I have to admit (wrong place to say this), but I also have a Lobo enhanced pancake that I carry my Kimber Pro Carry in .45. Enjoy both equally well.

No, far less sq butts made, especially in th early days. I do prefer them, even w/3" barrel.
This one is # 2J3222, Mod 36-1 Target, one of 213 made in 1975, Sq Butt, .400" target trigger, target
hammer, with a front sight base and pinned 3" HB.

I have a Blued Model 36 2" Square Butt and a Nickel Model 36-1 3" Square Butt. I think the rest of my .38 Special J Frames are all round butts.........
