For the amount of model 36's that are out there I can count on one hand the number I've seen for sale on local boards. That's a good price too. Post pictures when you get it.

Everyone always wants a Mod 36, you can always sell one and get your money back or make money on it.
If I could find one at that price I'd snag it in a heartbeat. Heck, if I could find three for that price Id snag em all just on principle alone. Wife would be mildly unhappy, so I'd have to give her one of 'em, but heck- a good buy is a good buy! Enjoy!

I got the model 36 it came with a black S&W holster and I got it for $340 instead of $375 he droped it on my driveway and it broke half the hammer spur off.he offered it to me for $300 but I said Id give $340. the gun is not scratched at all as it was in the holster.so now I need a J frame hammer.I also picked up a nice Italian blued 22short auto from him for $40 its a Armi balesi brescia brevello made in 1962.so contact me if you have a spare J frame hammer.the model 36 is a later one after 1982 its not pinned
Sounds like a good deal. I picked up this one for $350 earlier this year. A little wear on the barrel and cylinder. Would call it 80%. Put the S&W rubber boot grip on it. Pure joy to shoot and accurate as can be. Congrats on the find.

Nice little Chief! BTW, a common mod is to file the spur down on the hammer to reduce the possibility of the gun hanging up in clothing. Not suggesting you do this, but I've seen quite a few modified in this way, and, in fact, bought one not too long ago with the hammer cut/filed back leaving just enough of the spur to allow cocking for single-action IF you are very careful ; ).

it broke off to the length it is now. I have been dry firing it and I kinda like it short like it is. but for $340 its in great shape

I purchased what I thought was 1973 stainless chief special, turned out it was a model 60. To my untrained S&W eye the two look the same. Is it a 60 because it is stainless?

My Model 36. I bought it by searching Gun Broker for a seller in CA. I had to drive 60 miles to his FFL, but I paid only $450 (in CA!), so I'm happy. It sleeps in my nightstand. I like the Hogue grips because the original wood grips are just too small for me to get a good grip.
