That doesn't look like a Model 37 ser number. You need to take the grips off and look on the bottom of the frame for the ser number.

If the gun was made after 1969 it will be the number that starts with "J".

Before 1969 it will just be a number.

I'm thinking the serial is what he gave, and the BDZ guns were May of 1989, according to Supica. I don't trust the numbers tables a whole lot. Not sure what the date you're seeking will be. The dates in the table can mean anything. Usually we accept them as the date shipped from the factory. That can also be a date they were in production, a date they were put into the "vault" at S&W.

But the bible says 5/89.

Hey guys. Maybe I wrote the number down wrong but that was the number under the grip.I can't check on it now because I am not at home. I will double check it on Monday. Thanks for the replys.

I see where the BDZ is listed for "all other revolvers" on page 400 of the 3rd edition. I was taking the numbers off of the J Frame serial numbers on page 399.

Now that I look at the page again it only goes up to 1983 for the Models 36, 37, 38, 49 and 50.

So, I guess that anything made after 83 goes into the transition period and follows the numbers on page 400.
