I found a model 38 for sale. Advertised as like new. The finish is about 98%. The pictures seem to verify this. No box or papers included. The barrel is pinned so I think I'm asking this question in the correct forum. The price is $425. Fair???

I agree with s&wchad, maybe a little haggeling to be done, but I think it needs a new home!

Thank you for your help gentlemen. The seller made a little move my way so I plan to buy it. Pick it up tomorrow. ...serial# starts with J651... would that be about mid 70's?

Thanks again for your help.
Upon inspection of the revolver, I found that the frame was cracked under the breech end of the barrel.....otherwise it was a beauty. Too bad.

Bummer, but better to find this before taking it home! Keep searching, you'll find another one.

Imagine how dissapointed the seller must be knowing he has a paperweight, And not a very heavy one at that.

I am sure the[would be]seller is disappointed. The damage is not repairable. The revolver is over 30 years old and the crack is not likely to be viewed as a warranty obligation. Replacement of frame equals new firearm....as you said pred...a paperweight.

What would cause a frame to crack like that? The 38's are aluminum frames right? Is there a tendency for these to crack or is it from abuse?
