I have a chance to buy a 3914 and wondered if any of you have had one of these. It seems to be a blue version of the 3913. Is this correct? What is a fair price for one in excellent condition but no box or papers. Any other info would be appreciated

Thanks

It was only made for a year or two. It's definitely on my want list.

With blue pistols, every nick shows up on the black aluminum frame. So, there's a big difference between 100% and 95%. Here in California, I might pay $550 for ANIB (as new in box with all paperwork), $500 plus or minus for 100% - 99%+ no box, $450 for 98% no box. Prices below these for the given condition I would jump on . . . and right quick. I steer clear of blue pistols below 98%, but that's just me. FWIW

I have a 3914 to match my 3913.
It's accurate & fires pretty tight groups.
I'm very happy to have a 3914 in my
collection.

My thanks to DenverDick and 586l-Frame for their comments and for the great photos of the Model 3914. I will be buying this pistol before Christmas.

I'm on my 2nd 3914, I foolishly sold the 1st one and immediately regretted it. The 39 series are great pistols and I have never had any trouble with them. As far as the finish, its really a personal preference. You will see in short order that 3913/14 are very sought after, although these days ALL metal frames S&W pistols are going to be sought after.

my 3914 is my primary CCW weapon.don't mind the scratches, bare spots, dings, ect.it goes bang when I pull the trigger.that is all I care about. jwr

I have a bunch of 3913s and other 3rd gen. guns. The 3914, for some reason, has been the most accurate of all. These guns are really hard to beat. Are you thinking of an IWB holster yet? I waited patiently for a Mitch Rosen, but as nice as it was, it wouldn't let me carry with the safety off, so I sold it to someone who has no safety on his version in DAO. The TDAO Smith 3rd gen. have a real long double-action first shot, which makes it safer than a Glock or Kahr when carried that way, so I'm now lookin' for somethin' nice that will conceal the gun, hold it firm and will not force me to carry it locked. Any ideas? Not as easy to find stuff for 'em, as they're discontinued, but they are the best carry guns, IMHO.

Here is a photo of my 3914 & 3913
in a side-by-side vertical shot,
if you feel like gripping them
from your computer screen.

Cool thread, I was totally unaware of the 3914!

I'd like to find a clean 3913 / 3914 to add to the stable one day.

The 3914 was overshadowed by the 3913 and Ladysmith versions. Seems everyone wants to go to souless looking stainless. In my book, the 3914 is an overlooked jewel.

Here's mine -- well used, well worn, but still tight and accurate. Diet is Speer 124g Gold Dots.

I'd also like to hear holster suggestions for a good IWB holster.

Great gun, I have one too. Only thing I don't like about it is the chunky safety/decockers. Otherwise, it's a fine weapon. Nothing fancy, not particularly good lookin' IMO, but it's utilitarian for sure! Bought mine new in 1995.

The 3914 is an overlooked gem IMO..
I have a newly aquired 3913NL & just love it.
BillCa I notice some type of aftermarket magazine next to your 3914NL, KY Imports has some blued factory 3914 Magazines @ $19.99ea available..
I have a Milt Sparks IWB Holster that's realy great except I have a torn rotator cuff & can't reach there currently..
Enjoy!!

As of a couple of months ago, my duty gun is a 1994 Model 3914 that I bought new but that has been sitting in the safe except for a couple of trips to the range and a trip to Actions By T in 1998. I didn't know they only made them a couple of years. I really like the M&P I was planning on carrying in my new job slot, but this light single stack 9mm is sort of spoiling me.
Edited to add: I forgot to brag about the nice cordovan colored Delfatti rig had purchased and put away for "someday" when I started carrying the gun, which came about a month or two back with a change in job assignment.
Tried to post pics, never can get that to work off of Photobucket or Flickr.

I carry a 3913 in a Kramer #2 IWB. This horsehide holster should last for several generations and wear out several pistols and belts.

Given the small size and weight of the 39XX, it will carry well in factory made holsters like DeSantis and Safariland. These factory holsters are available without a multi month wait.

HEADKNOCKER: I just ordered a Milt Sparks---seems like a good deal & will be ready by spring.

jaysouth: I got lucky & found a used Kramer #3 for my CS45 and a Kramer belt scabbard for it, too. Will let you know how they work when I get 'em in a day or so...
