Last few gun shows I have been to I have seen some Model 39's priced real high. Last weekend one that was 85% in the box was marked $995.00. I have wanted one bad but this seems too high. I was thinking $450 tops. Are they getting popular for collectors now?

I buy and sell Model 39-2's quite often if I can find a good one. I wouldn't consider them rare but some of the dealers I buy from think they are. I have seen then asking $700.00 for one without a box or papers. The 39-2 are my all time favorite pistol but I would never pay more than$350.00 for one and it would have to be in pretty good shape before I would shell out anymore. In the last ten years I have probably sold both 39's and 39-2's by the dozens including steel frame models of the 39. $1500.00 is about right for one of these although I have seen them advertised for $4000.00. They are not that hard to find although some people would have you believe otherwise. These and the 3913 are my favorites in 9mm.

I had a 39-2 that was wasn't very pretty but shot like a sweetheart...I regret selling it to this day! I really want to replace it.

My first 39-2 I bought in May 2010 for $250 + tax at Gander Mountain of all places. About 95% except for a major scratch where someone must have used a metal object to push out the takedown pin on the right side of dust cover.
The second 39-2 was purchased in Dec 2010 for $300 otd at a really nice gun shop out west. The condition is at least 98%, a real creampuff.
I have had some luck finding magazines at gun shows and shops. I paid 20 bucks a piece for 4 and 17.50 a piece for two more. So, deals are out there...just keep looking.
The 39-2 is my favorite 9mm. Very comfortable in the hand, shoots well, and drop dead gorgeous. I am sure prices will continue to climb as these babies are really coming into their own.

I saw a LNIB older model 39 "no-dash" with the long extractor in its original box with tools paper and paperwork at a show last saturday.
They were asking $450.
There was also a LNIB 645 complete as above for $499.00. It hurt to let this one go.....but I'm saving for another safe right now !!!!!!

First generation 39's and 59's are my favorite autoloaders.
Clean used 39-2's catch my attention when priced below $300.
The no dash 39 is a bit more hard to find around here and although the average person wouldnt recognize the difference between the two,
I have no problem spending $350 to $400 for a clean example .
I have never seen a NIB no dash 39 but would probably pay up to $550 to $600 without hesitation.
I purchased a 5 digit SN# no dash in Fair condition recently on a whim for $300 although it was probably really only a $250 gun.
Also purchased a NIB early 70's 39-2 for $475 but that was negotiated down from $600 ,
Although I do not care for the large hooded rear aperature on 2nd gen guns recently purchased an all steel 539 no box with 2 mags for $300,
Then passed on an excellent condition Nickel 439 for $350 with only 1 mag and no box.

Looked at a stunning Nickel 39-2, LNIB for $450 last fall when I picked up my LNIB 3906 in a gun shop up in central NY. It was a beauty, but I'm not really into Nickel guns. So, they're indeed "out there". I always ask if they've got anything else in back that isn't on display. If I hadn't done that, I'd have never seen my 3906. Sometimes the LGS folks don't know the model structure that well, so I just ask if they have any other 9MM pistols by S&W - that's trotted out some real surprises...at least for me.

I'm not to knowledgable in this area, someone help me out, what is my 39 worth, specs: Model 39 (no dash) Ser number is 62467 may have missed a digit, I know the frame is steel by using a magnet, has box and warranty papers, no scratches, looks new, the only thing is, I cant seem to find a picture of my grips, they dont have the checkered grips, same design, looks more like maple, but smooth. 3 clips, all with S&W on the bottom, only shot one clip through it from the seller who is about 65 years old and cant remember where he bought it. oh, and it does have the S&W seals in the grips, anyone help me out. Thanks

I have noticed Model 39/39-2 availability comes in waves. Sometimes there are several choices in a wide variety of conditions, then the next week there are only a couple at a good price. The trick is to know what you want and have the money ready for the time the options are there.

I got the bug for one a while back, and like you, I found relatively few for sale; mostly abused examples. I posted a want to buy ad here, and got a nearly new 39-2 with box, papers, 3 extra mags, screw driver, cleaning kit and all for $450. That might be a bit high, but if I spent the time, money, and gas perusing shops and gun shows to find a better deal, I'd have soon been on the losing end. They're great guns and not made anymore, so I don't see their value decreasing anytime soon. I can't wait to shoot this one.
No. They have been Model 39-2's. I think these dealers are getting them mixed up Model 39 no dash guns or trying to pull fast ones.

You need to verify if your gun is an early steel frame gun or an aluminum frame gun.
Ealry steel frame guns are very collectable....Sometimes over $1200.00 ???
Funny thing is that the same gun with steel frame from 1986 is only worth $300.
I am amazed at what the 39 and 39-2 pistols are bringing. It is almost as if they are experiencing a resurgent interest in the marketplace. You used to be able to pick them up for next to nothing, now try to find one, and then try to find one in the box! Try to find a box!

When I started making a real effort to buy Smith&Wesson revolvers back in January I looked at a pretty nice 39-2 for $249.00 It wasn't perfect but well worth the money.

FWIW I just sold a blued, LNIB 39-2 (early 70's gun) for $450.00. It was 100% finish with both original factory mags, box, and cleaning rod, also a new Galco holster went with it.
A local shop has well worn 39-2's priced at $350.00 or about $370 OTD.
