After having the occasional fail-to-eject, or stovepipe, I took a close look at the extractor. Notice the distance X in the picture. Is there supposed to be that big of a gap between the extractor claw and the rim of the cartridge? Seems it would grab a lot better if the claw went to the brass/rim corner. Mine appears to just lean against the side of the brass. Is this normal?

the extractor should be tight enough to hold a shell to the breach face when the slide is shaken side to side if not, it needs adjustment...

and it tells how to do that and a few other M41 tips here...

Yes, it passes the shake test, but I still have stovepipes and failure to eject. My question is, is this extractor defective?

Are you using CCI standard velocity ammunition? If not, let me suggest you try a box or two and see if you still have the problem. My 41 is very picky about what ammo I use. Even some of the high end Wolf match ammo won't run in my 41. I can't recall any stove pipes, but lots of failure to extract.

My M41 will eat just about any ammo EXCEPT Remington Target loads. I spoke to the Factory years ago and they suggested I use any type of 40 gr. Hi Velocity loads such as the Wildcat, or Federal Champion bullets.

Did this problem just start, or has this been an issue from the beginning?
