Welcome Shotout and thanks for the link. After seeing one I'm kinda glad mine doesn't have the extended sight.
I am looking to purchase a used 1989 model 41! Did this model year have any issues? Is it worth the 900 bucks? Everything I read says yes .
Hi, I have a Model 41 .22LR 7in barrel with an SN of A182514. Does anyone know what the manufacturing date or year?
Thanks,
Speegle

I'm pretty sure you DON'T want to spend the money for a archive letter, as I wouldn't either. Some of us have a copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W with serial# tables in the book. Based on your serial# the book indicates it was probably shipped sometime in the 1973-74 time frame. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help and you're right I don't want to spend the money on an archive letter. Do you have any idea how much these are going for? I have access to bluebookgunvalues.com, and they show with a grade of 98% $1000 and add 15%-40% for early variations with cocking indicator (disc. 1978).
I just have no idea if that would be considered a fair marked value for this pistol.
Thanks again for your help!

My Standard Catalog doesn't seem to be that helpful with the date of manufacture of my just-acquired Model 41. (Maybe my book isn't the latest edition.)
The serial number is UAK32XX.
Can anyone assist please?
Thank you. Much appreciated.According to the label on your box 6365 = December 31, 1996
