Want to see if anyone has something ingenious to help on racking the slide on a model 41. The Tandemcross Halo is a possibility.

Pulling the slide with the gun cocked isn’t a problem but can’t cock the hammer pulling the slide. My grip is weak and the fingers slide off the shallow serrations. Would prefer not to drill and tap the gun. Have a red dot mounted which makes it harder to grab the slide. Any ideas are welcome, Larry

Just get a pair of soft deer skin gloves, gives better grip and doesn't hurt your hand. I'm pushing 80 years of age and find this is the best approach if you don't want to alter the pistol in any way.

My dad finds it much easier to reach around the top of the slide and overhand grip it with his entire left hand, then push the frame forward with the gun in his right hand. With your red dot being mounted pretty far forward, you can probably use that method, though the rail will make it more difficult.

I'd be concerned about adding even a couple ounces to the slide given the propensity of the M41 to behave unreliably.

But...One idea might be to get a custom made breech block retaining pin extended out on the right and left of the slide by a 1/4" or so.

The skateboard tape on the slide is certainly worth a try first.

Have the front of the slide serrated like a Hammerli 208/215. 1911 gunsmiths have added front slide serrations for years.

Try one of those thin rubber coated work gloves that can be found at your local hardware store. The rubber coating will give you a good grip and you only need to wear one glove on your non trigger hand.

You could easily replace the pin directly in front of the serrations with one than sticks out a 1/4" on each side. A "racking tool" (with two "arms") would slip over the extended pin and the slide could easily be racked.

Protocall Design, I just designed it - now you can build it - Ha - we're partners - LOL!!
