If you spend anytime on here, you'll see the praises of the model 915, but very little praise for the model 411. Why is that? Is it because it's chambered in 40S&W?

I just picked up 411 today (thanks MAUSER88). I also have a 915.

I had a 411 and a 411S and they were great pistols. Nay a problem, reliable, accurate and ergo friendly. Good value for the dollar......IMHO

My theory for why we don't see a lot of praise singing for the 411 is because the 411 wasn't made in nearly as high a volume.

Like I said, this is simply my theory. I know they made a guzillion 915's but I rarely see 411's offered anywhere. I don't have any numbers but I sure know what I've seen.

I believe the 411 is scarce.

It seems to me the .40S&W Guns are stepchildren. How else could I've bought both my Mod410s for about $200 each.

I think S&W had to scramble quickly in response to the HiCap magazine ban, which transformed the 411 into the 410. I've loved mine since new.

Well... kind of but not really.

The 411 and the 410 are not the same except for magazine capacity. The 410 is what S&W pretty much WANTED to accomplish with their cost cutting "Value Line" and the 411 is a significantly better handgun.

Fans of the 908, 909, 910 and 410 are free to disagree. It's not a personal dig but those guns don't hang with true 3rd Gens in my opinion.

That 411S is a really rare one! :D Or did you mean a 410S? :)

There is a supposedly unfired-in-original-box Model 411 for sale near me at $399.95+Tax. Despite my solemn promise to the good wife to never buy another .40 (unless maybe a better condition Model CS40? :p), I have to admit that I am vaguely considering it for our MA tax-free weekend, especially if I could get that price down by $50-100. I mean, it's still a .40 after all... right? :D

I am safe from GaryS snagging it as he is not a .40 kind of guy... so it's all mine if I want it! ;) Right Jep? :D

It really annoys us 9mm and 45ACP people when the 40 people think they can come out of the closet! Ok, you took drugs and bought a 40S&W gun and maybe you even like it, that does not mean that I have to hear about it much less see it. This 40 sickness is something that you need to keep to yourselves and practice behind closed doors. Just kidding! I could have bought some good firearms at good prices if I were open to 40 when I built my collection, and yes, I am a fan of the Model 915.

I was a charter member of the "Fortycal hater's club" for what I considered a slew of very good reasons. (No really, I'm being serious... the reasons that I didn't like .40 S&W were, in my opinion, quite valid.) And I don't feel much less about any of those reasons today. Yet, I've come to terms with the round and made my peace. It was a long time coming. And some 8 months back, I took delivery of a CZ Tac Sport in .40cal and I chose .40cal specifically over the 9mm version and I'm definitely in love with the pistol.

Don't tell my CZ, but I would love a 4006 Limited more, but that's a fantasy at this point.

Caliber debates in gun forums can be fun and engaging if the quality of discussion is high... which (sigh) is often rare. It simply occurs to me that most of the caliber debates center around what handgun chambering XXX will do when it comes to getting in a gunfight with bad guys and zombies. How much damage each shot will do, what kind of recoil and muzzle flip you'll deal with, how much ammo you can stuff in the gun, etc etc.

I carry a concealed handgun like so many of us do and it is a part of my life 100% of the time, but it is NOT my passion in handguns and definitely not my passion in handgun discussions on gun forums. For me, handguns are a complete visceral experience and a whole helluva lot of fun, fun for shooting on range days.

That's where the .40cal and I have found a friendship. I love my 9mm guns and I definitely have more of them than I probably need (and it seems I'm still shopping for more) but I can tell you for sure that when you are staring down a slew of steel plates at 15 yards, the .40cal throws them down with noticeably more authority than the 9mm does, and that brings a big grin to my face as I'm transitioning from one to the next.

Guess I'm saying that if you enjoy shooting handguns for fun, .40cal can be a lot of fun and if the current market says they must go for cheap money because the whole planet hates .40cal, then you are looking at some darn good deals on a lot of quality, fun guns.

In the mean time, if anyone has a S&W Performance Center "Stocking Dealer" SD-40, I'm here to tell you that forty cal sucks, everybody hates that pistol because it's a .40 and it's time for you to sell it, and you must sell it cheap because it's a .40 and you should be embarrassed. Send me a PM.
