Model 42

The model 42 stopped production in 1974, and the CDA prefix looks to be from 1999. There should be a 442 or 642.

Hmm, that's what I thought too but there is just a 42 on the yoke below the serial number. The gun is also blued instead of the matte black I've seen on most 442's. It also has the "AIRWEIGHT 38 SPL. CTG." on the barrel and it seems as if I've only seen this barrel marking on older models. Thank you for the info!!

There was a model "042" made in 1992 that would have had a 3-letter prefix, probably starting with a B, and (I think) the "Airweight" stamping.

model 42

This is a very timely post as there is a light weight model 42 (used but mint) for sale in my local shop which i almost bought and may go back tommorrow and get. It has the original blue card board box (which i think makes it early 90's vintage). It features:
High polish blued finish; Aluminum frame, NO "airweight" barrel stamping but its definitely an airweight.
Can't remember the serial number. It caught my attention because i recognized it as a smith you don't seevery often.
