IMHO the is not a better 45 ACP pistol. I have used the 4566 for years. I have other 45 ACP handguns, and others, and there are many very good handguns, just as good. I have found that the 4566 has been 100% reliable for me, and I trust it more than a good 1911. My 4566 sleeps beside me, an travels with me often. A good choice.

Hi:
Is the Model 4566 an all stainless steel weapon?
In the past I had a Model 4516 as an "Off Duty" and a Model 4506 as a service weapon. I did not care for the Model 4516 because of the weight and balance.
Thanks,
Jimmy

Yes jimmy...the 4566 is all steel like the 4506....and yep, it's heavy....

I use both the 4566 and the 4563 (alloy version of the 4566).

Not a finer defensive out there.

I have a S&W 4506 45acp, wouldn't trade or sell for anything! 100% reliable and sits by my bed along with taking on walks! Good holster makes all the difference!

While I don't have a 4566, I do have the 1066 (10mm version of the same gun). It has proven perfectly reliable and accurate. I would have no problem with trusting a 4566.

Carried a 4566/4563TSW guns for a few years, used one or both in IDPA a couple of years, and really like the size/balance of the guns. Had one that had a barrel/frame fit problem but S&W fixed it quick. Absolute, total reliability.

I carried one as a duty gun before they made me switch to a plastic fantastic. The 4566 was my last "my choice" duty gun. Still have it, still love it. I am looking for a 4516 to go with it and my CS 45.

I used a 4506 for 11 years as a duty pistol. We traded for 4566 TSW pistols and I found them just as good. I believe the 4500 series guns were among the best duty pistols ever made.

I've got a 4566 that's a nightstand gun. It is a wonderful weapon. Bought as a used LEO gun, I've put over a thousand rounds through it of all kinds, target, defense ammo, and handloads. It's never had a hiccup and shoots point of aim. The only drawback is weight and size for carry, but I like it so much that I went and got a 457 to carry. I shoot it almost as well as the 4566. I'll never sell either gun.

I just picked up a 4566 today. Going out tomorrow and practice on some bowling pins.I'm used to sub compacts but this gun really seems to fit my hand.

I had a 4566 when they were pretty new. I bought mine as a police demo that appeared virtually unfired. It was $399 back in 1991.

It was very reliable and I put thousands of rounds through it, but it was too heavy to be a comfortable carry gun all day, every day. If I'm going to carry that much weight I want higher capacity or a 1911 as I'm not the biggest fan of traditional double action autos.

Still, the quality and reliability was great so if it's not too heavy for you it's a solid choice. R,

Love mine...put Novak's wider 2 dot on the rear and a green fiber optic on the front...
With the all stainless weight, recoil is minimal for a .45.

I have 4566tsw 1066 the tsw is heavy. One of them is with me where ever I go.

4566 is all stainless...the 4563 has the alloy frame and stainless slide.

What does the warning on your slide mean? My 4566 on decock does nothing(trigger just moves)if you were to work the slide while on decock it will drop the hammer on the FP block. You will have to manually move the lever up to use the pistol.

Does yours go auto in to fire mode from decock?

Bob

Hi Bob,

It is simply just a decocker. It does not act as a safety because it will return to the fire position after the hammer is decocked.
