model 51 question

i was wondering if model 51's were a little rare and how many were made.the m.51 in question is a 22 magnum, blue 31/2 in. barrell,sq. butt,target sights,98%,serial #m-454xx, no box,i think around 1972 gun.a friend of mine has it and i think i could buy it for 500.00.any info or thoughts welcome.thanks curt.

Scarce as hens teeth! As far as the price, I paid $475.00 for a straight up model 34 two weeks ago. I would say that 51 would easily be worth considerably more than that.

My 2 cents would be to buy it. Fun shooters and secure investment.
 
I bought this one new around 1971. I ordered a model 34 clyinder for it. Right after that I noticed in the next s&w catalog they made it a option. I dont know if I was respondsable, I would like to fantasise I was.

i got to check out the m. 51 today.it's all original,98%,no box or acessories.i think i can bring it home for 500.00,thanks for all comments.
 
i put 400.00 down on it and will pick it up around june 2 nd.i need the correct box now,if you have one for sale or know of one please let me know.model 51,blue,3 1/2 in. barrell.thanks to all.
