Going to look at mod. 51, supposed to be 95% , some holster wear. If as stated, is it worth $ 400.00, Thanks

Reference your question as to worth of M-51, my opinion is yes since in this area they bring closer to $500.00 to $550.00 especially if the person making the purchase has been looking for an extended length time. If you can afford to shoot the Magnum Ammo then you will have a very nice revolver. .02 cents worth or less!

That's a "Buy it now" price. I would not hesitate. Many of those have had a 22 LR cylinder fitted to it which makes it very versatile and cheaper to shoot.

i am picking up my model 51 this weekend.it is a solid 98%,no box.it is 500.00 and i think its worth every penny.they say they are a little rare and hard to find.now i need to find the correct box for it.

Way to go! You did good! Do you have the serial Number? That'll give me a clue as to the correct vintage box you need. If I run across a box, I'll let you know.

Looked at & fired the 51 today, cond. is around 93% but it may have end shake as cylinder appears to be rubbing end of barrel and cylinder is sticking sometimes when opening. Ejector rod has not backed out. Would S&W give appox. quote over phone. Can Anyone advise me? Thanks.

Why 3 1/2" for the 51

You will love your 51. Great little backpacking piece. I always wondered why S&W came up with 3 1/2" as the only barrel. Now a 6" would really be something. Like a Model 35, which is another of my favorites. $500 is a go as you don't see many for sale and even have a chance to dicker over.

All the Best,
Ischia

tedog, buy the Model 51. $400.00 is a good price for that rimfire J Frame. It might need some repair, but in all likelihood it will be a minor and inexpensive repair. It's a top rate revolver for sure.

All the Best,

Ischia,
That's an excellent question that I will post as a new thread.
I'll extend the question to Airweights as well which only come with a 3 1/2" barrel. Actually I prefer the 3 1/2" barrel and have a pre war Heavy Frame Target (Bekeart Model) which had been cut to 3 1/2" that makes a very handy Kit Gun. I've also obtained an Airwieght barrel for a post war Kit Gun I have. The Airweight barrels are not marked as such and therefore look 'factory' when installed on a regular full weight Kit Gun.
