I mad the mistake of asking my LGS if he had gotten anything neat in on trade recently, and he told me he had taken in a Model 52-1 in the other day. I asked to see it, and couldn't put it down so it had to follow me home. Unfortunately, no 38 spl wadcutter ammo to be had,so to the reloading bench I go. I don't have any hollow base wadcutter on hand but I do have a few thousand Missouri Bullet double end wadcutters. I usually load these flush with the case and 3.2 gr of hp38. Does this sound like a reasonable starting point for a 52 or should I hold out untill I can find some HBWC to load up for it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Very nice. I had several of those pistols over the years. I used to squirrel hunt with the 52-1. Head shots only, I don’t eat the brains.
Hornady HBWC with 2.7 grains of 700-X. Shot a lot of 2700 courses with the 52.

I have tried most every load for the M52. I have had the best accuracy with the 148gr HBWC but the DEWC work of with a little more powder. The 3.2 gr HP38 is good to start with. Congrats on the 52-1. I shoot the 52-2 only because it is the most cosmetically challenged one i have. The best shooter I have is the 52-1.

My 52-1 seems to prefer 2.8 grains of Bullseye with a 148 grain lead bullet HBWC's are a bit more accurate than DEWC's.
