I've just recently picked a model 53 and managed to shoot 4 rounds in 20 minutes because the cylinder would stick after every shot. I had heard this was a problem with this gun but had no idea it would happen every single time. The cylinder were clean without any oil, etc. I was shooting new ammo 40 grain bullets made by Stars and Stripes in Florida. I love the gun but really find it completely useless if its going to stick every time. Any suggestions or tips on what I can do would be Much appreciated.

Did you check the primers after firing? Do they look like the backed out?

Before shooting the gun, clean the cartridge chambers with alcohol, you can also wipe down the rounds the same way.
Maybe there was some lube on them. Also I have shot hundreds of rounds out of the model 53, and never have experienced the backing out of a round. Also if your going to buy some reloads give Reeds a try. I have fired there ammo as well as factory original and a friends reloads.

I've had a M53 for over 30 years. At first it used to have the cases back back out and bind the cylinder big time... when I would have described the chambers as "clean". After a fair amount of reading I learned that my "clean" left traces of lube, solvent and the like in there... enough to let he cases slip instead of gripping the chamber walls. The recommended cure was to entirely degrease the chambers. It worked perfecty. I wouldn't use alcohol (or anything that has any water content), there are many degreasing solvents that entirely evaporate after cleaning. Make sure you get all traces of oil and solvent under the extractor and from around the ejector rod or they'll find their way into the chambers. I've heard of some 53s that never bind but never seen one!

load your own down to around 1500fps and do the other things mentioned. easier on your ears and the gun.

After doing a through cleaning and degreasing if the rounds still stick try to find some Remington .22 Jet and see if they also stick...

Guess I was lucky...with all the factory loads and reloads I put through my gun some were stiff to eject but none ever caused the cylinder to bind...
