Stopped at my FFL today, he brought out a very+ nice 547 revolver which is a seldom seen 9mm. I'd like town it but, he is asking $1495. Wow, is that even in the ballpark ?

About 10,000 were made from 1980 to 1985. The S&W book list anib at $1400 so if it is like new and has box and all the goodies then I would say he is in the ballpark but if it is just the gun I would say he is a bit high. If you take into account that guns sales are through the roof and background checks are taking days to get done then it won't be there long.

The market really has the 547 in the clouds. The market isn't always rational, but it -is- real. (Somewhat) limited supply, odd model, well made and like a lot of things, buyers find themselves in a place where they have the money to chase down interesting things from days gone by.

30 years ago... S&W and wholesalers could barely rid themselves of the 547. Same thing with the 16-4. Now they carry an eye-popping price tag.

Unless this example is beat up, then yes, he will likely sell it at $1,500.

For what it's worth I sold two in 2017, both pristine, in original boxes numbered to the guns with all the goodies. The three inch round butt went for $1600 and the four inch square butt for $1800. A bit unusual because of the few that I've seen sell before and after the three inch RB versions seem to be a little more expensive. Be that as it may $1500, in todays market, seems about right, assuming the gun is in excellent condition.

I guess it depends on what you're going to use it for. The three inch round butt would seem to be a little easier to carry concealed.

Hello Mr. Arm, 547 is a neat revolver. When they came out I had a few at
retail in my shop and they sat there. I pulled them and kept them.
I use to shoot the poop out of them when I was younger. No hot stuff as in sub. or +P ammo. Just bite it and work a deal and shoot it. Best.

I bought mine about three years ago for $1000. As new in box, but with magna grips. It is a very late produced gun, so I don't know if somebody robbed the round butt targets from it or not. The magnas do fit it perfectly though. I had a set of round butt targets for it, but recently replaced them with a set of Craig Spegel extended boot grips.

With the magnas or the targets, $1500 would not touch it.

I recently saw a 4" with pinned barrel go for $2300. NIB.
The 4" is harder to find and with a pinned barrel makes it harder.
Call me a dumbass but I have a 4" at Ten Ring Precision presently being converted to adjustable sights & accurizing and when I get it back it's going to MA to be nickel plated.
Going to have so much $ in it I'm sure it will be mine until I die.
But it will be unique.

Jack The Dog currently has one up for auction. It is a 3", round butt with a pinned barrel.
It's not perfect with a few light scratches and rub marks so would make a nice carry piece. No box and currently over $1500 with a couple of days to go.

I passed on one a few years back that was in NIB condition marked at $895 because I thought it inferior in concept to a Model 13 3" that was the same price. Guess I should have bought it anyway.....

I have a 1982 3" pinned barrel round butt.

They are very accurate too!

A 547 just came up for sale in Michigan. Looks nice in the pictures. $1,000 free shipping, asking price. I would love to have it, but spending too much money elsewhere. Bob

First time I ever came across one was at my big local private gun show, this would have been 7 or 8 years ago, maybe a bit less. It was neat and he offered it to me at $400 but I wasn't interested.

I still find it neat, I don't really have a need for one, obviously neither of us knew the potential market upside of it years back.

One thing that almost cannot be argued, no matter how much emotion drives the discussion: Smith & Wesson made extremely little profit on these and there was a time where they could barely give them away.

My son, a CNC programmer/ machinist foreman and shooter loves my 547. He has told me that the cost to make that system has got to be way up there. Its a great concept but just not economically feasible.

With that said its a nice shooting, accurate revolver!

I don't think they are a weak link. I have one NIB and another that is being customized currently which I am going to shoot. The only way I can foresee a problem is if hot loads are used and cases swell and are hard to extract. My advise if you have to push hard on the ejector rod. Don't. Tou a cleaning rod or something to remove the cases 1 at a time.
