The rear sight blade needs replacement on one of my 57's.

I tried to look on S&W's site to order it, but it said to look at a chart for the correct one. Never found the chart.

After a little reading, it appears I need a rear sight *kit* with a new screw, etc.

What width sight blade do I need, and where to get it?

I'd really like to find old vintage take out parts if possible.

Many thanks,

Greg

I'll give you what I found, hope it the correct gun.

(OLD STYLE) For the 4-6 inch barrel it takes a .146 rear blade Part # 05109 (black assem blade) and Part # 05900 (white Outline assem blade).

(NEW STYLE) 57-4 also runs a .146 blade rear blade Part # 22334,05109 (black assem blade) and Part # 22331,05900 (white Outline assem blade).

Of course you could just get the blade (order a .146 white outline or black). Remember the windage screw and nut. Don't loose the plunger & spring or you will need these parts too.

Check out the FAQ for info on replacing the blade. :)

Search these part numbers in Brownells or MidwayUSA on line to see if they have the parts.
Or Monday you call & order from S&W parts.

sight blades

You might consider a taller rear blade, I installed a .213 on my 6" for 200yd use. lets you zero with out the worry of the sight popping off the adj stud. the .160 height is an option also. the combo of a Mcgivern bead and the tall rear is great for old eyes. I run the rear down to bottom and its dead on at 50yds with my loads, come up 2 1/2 turns and the 200yd zero is real close, and no worry of the sight popping up and off. You will destroy the old sight screw removing it so get blade, screw and nut. I liked this set up so well I laid in a supply of rears just in case. Tried it on the 25-5 , just never got the fine accuracy of the 57.

It is a 4" gun, *S* numbered.

I looked around at Brownells last night. Out of stock on the common ones.

I will call S&W Monday.

I haven't measured the blade that's in it yet. My calipers are at work. But right now the sight assembly is about .015" from bottomed out to be sighted in with my loads. I don't think I could go much taller than what's in there.

Many thanks for the help Gentlemen.

Gunparts(numrich) lists them as instock, last time I looked. $13 or so, another $10 for screw and nut would prbably do it.

S&W will probably just give them to you, but if you strike out there, call this man-
Jerry Rodgers. He and his partner bought all of the old forged parts that S&W wer going to toss when they went to mim. hey have over 5 tons of it. I know him a little, and can vouch for his honesty. I bet money he can hook you up.
