Model 57 Thread--

Beautiful classic 57's, gentlemen.

The .41 Magnum always has a spot in my heart because it's an "oddball" cartridge. The "not quite as popular" tend to become popular with me.

Very nice looking Model 57s fellow members--keep them coming.

I carried a model 58 for 13 years as a duty side arm. I never even saw a model 57 until last year and now I have the two posted above.

The .41 mag has met every need I have ever had for it.

1964 6" 57

Here is my first Mod.57. Bought it new in 1964. paid $140. It was the first 57 to hit town, and I had to have one. Loved it then, still do. I think it is the best all around cartridge, especially for handloading.

1977 Mod. 57 8 3/8"

Just had to have an 8 3/8" 57. Bought this one, #N38969x, a couple of years ago unfired, and still have not got around to firing it.

I'm late jumping on this thread but here are my 3 .41's. The 6" 57 was my first S&W and has been carried and shot alot. Has 37 deer to it's name, mostly when I lived in Alaska and the limit was 6 per year. Still have the presentation cases for the 57's but the flocking and styrofoam are in sorry shape. All 3 are shooting machines, but I take it easy on the 4" nickeled 57. I still have it's original stocks but took em off as they are great examples that I don't want to bugger up.

Fortunate enough to have acquired 3. A 6" from 1964, and blue and nickel brothers , N8070xx and N8090xx just 2000 numbers apart from 1980.

Love shooting the 41 Mag.

I always wondered why the 57 and 58 never really took off. I had both as a young patrol officer and often carried the 57,instead of a 29. It is a great revolver and will effectively drop anything I know of in Mississippi to the ground. I have a vintage 57 dating back to 1966 that has been carried for many years and still looks and performs flawlessly. Wish I could find some of them at their introductory prices!

57s...

This was my second Model 57. Bought it in 1981 I believe from a co-worked on Dallas PD. This was six shots DA from 25 yards...the flyer was called and was me not the gun..

1964 6" with a 657-3. The 1964 was purchased at a gun show in 1990 from a farmer who bought it new in 1964 and NEVER SHOT IT...

The .41 Magnum is the best of the Big Bores...everything you need and nothing you don't...especially recoil.

I bought my wife a Model 57 for Christmas in 1982 (wink-wink) and it was the first gun she ever fired. Unfortunately, she really took to the 41 mag and has become a pretty good shot with it (sigh).
