I have a chance to pick up a model 58 in .41 mag on saturday. My question is in this condition how much is it worth? He is pretty set at 500 it does not have a box or anything just the gun and its all numbers matching.

Run, do not walk!! Mebbe so you should call him on the phone and tell him you'll take it. That's a heck of a price.

Model 58

It is a buy at $500. All you have to do is, go to gun broker and look at what 58's are being listed for there and on other gun auctions sites.....If you want a 58, here's ur chance. Buy it.

Easily a $650-750 gun. I'm guessing the stocks will not have a matching number, as they are the square (instead of the usual rounded model 58) bottom Magna stocks. Still a great deal.

i was told they match since they dont how much are square but stocks for it

$500?!?! I'd be on that deal like a duck on a june bug! ;) (always wanted to say that)

I believe I gladly paid 1 1/2 times that for mine.

CAREFUL!

It can't be "numbers matching"... those stocks are wrong.

Correct, issued stocks should look like this... note the rounded bottom edges. These are factory "Modified Magnas".

The stocks shown in your photo are regular "Magnas" probably off a much more common Model 28 Highway Patrolman.

There has been a spate of re-tagged (and in my mind, fraudulant) stocks surfacing lately. The serial number should be stamped into the underside of the wood on the RH stock panel. The left panel should not be stamped with the serial number.

Still, $500 is not a bad buy if everything else checks out. Correct stocks will run you $100 (if you get lucky) to $150. Unless they gun is an S-Serialed frame before about S290,000 when the stocks would have diamond centers around the screw and you'll have to add at least another $50.

Yep, just got a similar M58 from a member here and paid more. It had incorrect grips also.

I am now looking for a pair of 'N' diamond PC magnas, without breaking the bank.

Good luck.

I've just had mine a couple of months, It was $775.00 locally. The stocks are correct and number to the gun. No box or papers though. I would gladly buy it again for the same price. It has become a favorite. I think $500.00 is a very good price. You need to jump on that.

Cheers,

Rick

I didn't have a Tyler handy when I took my 58 to the range the first time. So I just put an old set of Pachmayrs on. Now I have a set of Ahrends on it that I like a lot.

Cheers,

Rick

Edited to add, I have the original stocks wrapped in my safe. I can always swap them for picture time :) The Ahrends are really comfortable when shooting.

Run, don't walk.....$500 is a steal for almost any N frame shooter.....a good solid 58 is worth far more than he is asking.....if you don't buy it, PM me the guys # and I will :D

To clarify some[I hope] when the fellas say rounded or factory modified grips they mean PC or "plain clothes" grips NOT round butt or square butt.As an "historical note" [not really] about 1975 or 1976 all N frames were square butts however, I thought a round butt would be "the thing" so, while my friends at the LGS laughed and accused me of gun butchering I round butted a Mod.58.Actually, the back strap was rounded with the profile of a K frame RB. The front strap was left as made except the toe was rounded slightly due to the mainspring and screw. It was great and fit my hand like a glove. I traded it to a police investigator in Montgomery or B'ham Al. [I don't remember which]. I only traded because it was the only .41 Mag I had in a passel of .44 Mags. The cop said if he had to shoot some purp he wanted to really,"blow him away"or words to that effect. A year or so later he was on his way home from work when he stopped in a convenience store only to interrupt a robbery in progress. The purp with a shotgun went through a cooler door with two .41 Mag. ICBMs to the chest the other, demurely laid his pistol down and gave up! I read about it in the newspaper and sometime later I tried to trade the .41 back from him. His response was a scornful "NO WAY".That is my claim to fame of making the first RB N frame. Nick

I've got what I consider to be a pretty nice, S series, Model 58.

If someone were to offer me $500 for it, the answer wouldn't be no...but "HELL NO!" :D

The 58s are so cool. If only they were chambered in something other than the revolver equivalent of the 16 gauge shotgun:-)

If I was to run into one like that for $500, I'd learn to love the caliber, though.

The right side has pitting and the grips are wrong !

I would still give $500 for it and stuff it in an El Paso Threepersons holster! :)

I just paid $625 for high end shooter with non-original grips so $500 seems pretty good.
