Model 58 Round Butt?

I have a 57/58 Round Butt.
It's off getting some of the screw-ups fixed.
I knew it wasn't real but the price was "that's a deal", so I bought it.

Turned out that 90% of the work was by Jim Hoag.
It shot real nice and is a fun gun. May never be worth $800 but I paid less than a quarter of that.

I just posted in the Unofficial Model-58 Club thread before I saw this. I have bought the M58 for $700 plus shipping for all its "flaws" mostly because I have small hands and love round butts. The salesman insisted that it has not been re-blued, Well, we'll see.

Thanks, you saved me $700. I inspected it, and while I'm sure it's been reblued because of the grip frame alteration, had it not been for that I wouldn't have guessed it. None of the telltale signs are there. The backstrap is smooth, not grooved.

I know I over-paid but it is a shooter I will enjoy and it will keep my 57s company.

In my experience, most who tackle a mod like that know what they're doing. I think it and you will be fine. ;)

Appreciate the encouragement. The next two weeks will be tough.

Yeah, you guys are right, smooth back strap on the M58. I guess I got "confused" on a M29 I also did with a 3" barrel shortly after the M58 Mod.. I bought a M29 with a 6&1/2" barrel that had been bulged and I sent it to Larry Kelly at Magnaport to cut it off behind the bulge and remount the front sight. The result,IIRC, was a 3&1/4" barrel which I mounted back on the original host gun.I liked the M58 round butt so much I did the same round butting on the M29. It WAS the gun I wanted to re-groove the back strap on all the way down.At the advanced old age of 70 I find myself muddling things together, not so much forgetting as getting the "mix and match" all bollixed up! I'm not sure if it is 1/2 Heimers, or craft disease[can't remember a "freaking thing"] anyway, thanks to you sharp eyed brothers that caught my ,[does dumbass have a hyphen?]mistake. Nick

I'm not far behind you. Still remember things happened sixty years ago but can't remember what happened yesterday.

Ok..so where are the pics of the newly acquired 58 Round Butt???

Always thought a round butt 3" 58 would be a great carry gun. Hard chromed or in stainless with a tritium dot front sight blade would be even better.

Someone mentioned above that the front sight isn't pinned in...I think the ones I have are...
