This is my first time ever posting. I own quite a few Smith and Wessons but this is my first revolver so please excuse my ignorance. I bought a brand new 586 Classic with a 4 inch barrel last week and shot it today for the first time. When I got home and started to clean it I noticed 1 small mark on each section of the cylinder very close to the front. I tried to polish them off but they wouldn't come off completely. I can post a picture if my description isn't enough but I have not seen these kinds of marks on other revolvers that I've shot and I want to know if I'm doing something wrong or if there is something wrong with my gun. I would very much appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Common on the newer guns. This happens due to the sight screw depth not being flush with the bottom of the top strap. I use Break Free CLP and it will usually wipe off. This is as stated above a powder burn mark.

On second thought I will just attach a picture, just to be sure.

It is the front screw of the rear sight's leaf.

Your's doesn't look too bad (compared to some of mine) but, if it really bothers you, you can replace that screw with a slightly longer one.

As robert1804 stated in this thread below, you'll likely need to file a little off the replacement screw's tip to get it flush where it exits the bottom of the top strap. Also as mentioned, the head is a little bigger so it doesn't sit as recessed as the factory's. But it's an easy swap (keep your old screw) if you're so motivated.
