I just came into possession of a model 59 nickel and the rear sight is adjustable for windage and looks like it might adjust for elevation also any on out there know for sure?

The difference between the two factory sights is an easy one to distinguish... a fully adjustable sight has the rear sight blade extending back from the round base and it has a screw on the top for the elevation adjustment. The windage only rear sight has the sight blade running across the middle of the "lollipop" base, and only has the 1 screw on the right side for the windage adjustment.

I've acquired fully adjustable M39/59 sights before where the elevation screw would not turn and the sight needed to be soaked in WD-40.

Moisture gets up into the space under the sight blade where it can get to the screw threads and form rust.

I have a 59, blued, police issue, made in the very early 70's I guess by the ser #. It is adjustable for windage but not for elevation. As shown above elevation adjustables are available.

They occasionally pop up on e-Bay & Gunbroker... post a WTB in the classified section here, since jsbethel posted a pic.. maybe it's available (said with tongue planted firmly in cheek).

The following may sound like something Capt. Obvious would say but... they are tough to find, we're talking about something that hasn't been made since the 70's, but... with time they do occasionally pop up.

I bought mine from the forum classifieds and I think the seller had 3 at the time so yes, they do show up.

I think I put the cart before the horse. I went to the range yesterday and shot the 59 for the first time all it took was a small adjustment for
windage, and that was it, dead on what a sweet shooter.

I'm willing to bet that in this day and age, THAT adjustable rear sight in that factory packaging is probably a collector's item just as it sits and bring a good bit of money just as we see it in the picture. Neat picture.
