I have had the 34 for a week or so, received the 60-4 ser# BDN19XX last night. It's 38 spl 3" barrel, TH and TT. Has very nice trigger with trigger pulled locks up tight as Dick's hat band. Shot 15 rounds, 13 of the 15 grouped 1.75 inches at 15 yards free hand. I think I have a new favorite Smith!!!

Thanks,

I dig the 34 also, Wife will be using it for some double action shooting to get ready for her PD432 .32 mag.

Going to work up some hand load's for the 60-4 today, Cast 125gr LSWC.

Fired about 150 rounds in it. I'm tickled to death with this little gun. Bottom group is 10 shots from 15yds and poor Bunny was from 25yds.
Wife thinks she may have to have one also

Impressive performance from your 60-4, those "banana" stocks are the nicest pair I've ever seen!

I have one of the 60-4"s. It is amazing that they show up so often. They did not make a lot of them.

It shoots way better than I ever thought it would. Banana's fit my hand very well.

I really love the M-60-4. One of the best small trail guns, ever.

It will be on my hip alot, We have 160 acre farm, it will earn it's keep, 4 legged varmints and a little meat here and there but it will kill tin cans more than any thing.

I remember looking at them in dealers catalog and wanting one. But at that point in my life there was very little if no money in my pocket.

In my Very Humble Opinion, the 60-4 is the very best J frame ever made. Got mine NIB and the FIRST thing I did was get rid of the ugly rubber grips. Put on the best looking pair of RB factory I could find and a Tyler T. I believe, besides mine, I have seen only two other mod 60-4s. (But I don't get out much.

I bought my 60-4 almost as soon as S&W brought them out. It was utilized as a canoeing gun for many years. When I bought it, nobody made a holster for it. I found a used DeSantis thumb break for a 3" J frame at a gun show. I took it home and soaked the bottom of the holster in warm water, put the gun in it, and left it out in the sun all afternoon. Ala custom fit holster. It is probably one of the last guns I would ever part with.

The targets are just for show, it spent most of its life wearing the factory Uncle Mike's banana grips. They aren't real pretty, but they don't jab you in the ribs all day sitting in a canoe seat.

I love wood and leather, but to tell the truth this 60-4 will wear it's work cloths for the most part. Factory rubber and Bianchi Ranger.

I didn't really think when I started this post, the 34 is in the right section but not the 60-4.
Or is it?
When did S&W start makeing 60-4?
I remember looking at them in the catalog but not what year it was.

I am with you there. Have a 3" 547 that is pretty special but the 60-4 and my pre lock 317 would be the last to go, God willing, I get the choice.--Dog

It's funny you brought up a 3" 547, it is probably the first gun I would get rid of. It is the only unfired safe queen I own.

I too am a devotee of the 60-4; probably would be/will be my last gun to go (even after the K22's). It's been accurate, easy to carry, and easy to maintain. Only thing I've found is that mine was kind of grip sensitive. For a while I had a set of Badger's on it and its accuracy suffered. Great looking grips, but I had to go back to the UM's, and then some j-targets to recover its accuracy. -S2
Here's an old photo of mine wearing its J-targets. Also, I don't see them for sale around here very often. I'm thinking seriously of getting one of those 5" M60's since the 3" 60-4's just don't seem to be around.

You just might change your mind on the 547 if you shoot it. Plus, put it on a table or on this forum and see how long it lasts. Probably 30 minutes. But shoot it first. The 3" is a hot item. Mine is sure not for sale. --Luckydog
