According to the SCSW there were a total of 4560 made with both 5" and 6.5" barrels. Does anyone know how many of that total had the 5" barrel? I've shown mine to a few ppl and always get the same reaction, "That's the first 5" I've seen" and of course, "Can I shoot it?" The answer is always "yes".

I have no intention of selling it or my 4" 610-3 for that matter I'm just curious.

I have a NIB 5" 610 in my collection. It seems that most
5" is very hard to come by. As far as a total production not
sure, I figure it's very few because the prices on the 5" are
very high...

I kick myself nearly everyday for not grabbing one at the LGS with a 5" barrel.
I have no idea how many were made, only that it wasn't enough!

I just don't understand having a standard production gun and not shooting it. What a waste of a good firearm.

George take that thing out of the safe and go shoot it. You won't regret it and it's not going to lose that much if any in value.

I bought both of my 610s nib and went straight to the range with them. I've been offered more than I paid for either of them so I would say the value is still there.

I'm guessing George shoots some and collects others, so it's all good. Collectors can be fussy about that USF ("unfired since factory", a phrase and acronym I just made up).

USF.mdog came up with a new one. I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard half the first production run was 5 inch and the other half 6.5 inch. The price difference comes from 6.5 inch being made in the -1 and -2 pre lock versions increasing the numbers in that barrel length. Try finding the 3 inch, only 150 made of those.

If we could get enough orders together, S&W would build some new ones. They told me a special order would be several hundred for either a wholesaler or PD. I swear, about a year or 2 ago, S&W customer service told me that all I had to do was have my dealer order one and they would build it for me. Guess I was smoking crack because I must have dreamed it. The S&W guy acted as if I was nuts when I mentioned it this time around. I am now after Ruger to build a New Blackhawk in 10mm/40. At this point, I just want one and don't care who builds it.

Now that is the most Butt Ugly thing I have ever seen. And I know how ashamed you are for owning it. So, just to help a brother out send it to me and I will dispose of it properly :D And you will for ever more be able to hold your head high ;)

I bought my 5" when they first came out. I took it to see Ron Power at Power Custom first thing and had his Power Custom Combat work done to it, and I also had him shorten the barrel to 4" off the back. Shortening the barrel to 4" probably did not help the collectors value any, however who would have ever thought it would have been a collectors prize 20+ years ago. I carryed mine most of my 15 years as a reserve Deputy Sheriff, and most of my 2 years after that as a Police Chief.
I carried it all those years in a Tex Shoemaker Semi-Breakfront Security holster. In about 1992 that was about the best Hi-Security duty holster that you could find, and still make a reasonably fast draw from. I carried 4 reloads in a custom Black Basket Weave Moon Clip Carrier with 2 up and 2 down in the tubes.

I have always been a fan of the 610 and 10mm cartridge from the time I first saw them. I also have a 310 Night Guard to go along with it.
