Model 625 demise?

Does anyone know when S&W discontinued the 625? Was it 2020 or 2021?

45 ACP in a revolver would be fun but N frames are too big imo. How about a model 69 in 45 ACP?

This has been addressed previously but the "Cliff Notes" version is the cylinder of the L frame is not large enough to accept 5 rounds of 45 ACP. Nor could it hold the pressure.

Which is too bad because I have been wishing for one since they first introduced the 686.

Back in 2009 I found and bought a very nice 625-2 from a local gunshop. I paid $625 OTD. Have enjoyed shooting it. Very accurate easy to use revolver in the almost most American of handgun calibers ... .45 ACP. Five in barrel is all anyone could want. Back when I bought this revolver, the folks that ran the local police matches had informed me that my six inch 686 would no longer be permitted since it was one inch to long. Oddly, almost all the fellows were shooting 1911's ... hardly any shot issue Glocks. That 625 was a bid disconcerting ... it looked ... to long. But, nope! And that butter soft DA made it easy to chop great big hole in the target. With moon clips that thing is the business for such work. Just run the cylinder, drop the empty and drop in a full moon clip and your back in business. Just a very easy gun to use for all manner of shooting from matches to whatever needs shooting out in the woods/fields. So thankful I didn't keep walking back in 2009. Sincerely. bruce.

You could be right about not holding 5 rounds of 45 ACP but pressure? The 69 handles the pressure from 44 mag so 45 ACP would not be a problem.

Realizing I hi-jacked this thread from 2011. But my question remains unanswered. Does anyone know what year Smith stopped making the 625?

If Smith would put out Lew Horton Style with 3" one piece, full-under-lugged barreled versions with Goncalo Alves "Combats" (sans hole's always) they would sell like 5gallon buckets of water in hell... 4" barreled full under-lugged versions too.

Even though I have three 45 wheelguns, my favorite is now my 610 4".
Thanks a lot. Just when I have my collection how I want it now you've got me thinking I need a couple 10mm revolvers. This revolver addiction truly is progressive. And expensive!

As far as I know it was late last year or early this year. I think S&W sent a notice to their distributors that it was a discontinued model but I don't recall when that was.

I just got a 625-6 5" the other day. I have been wanting one for years. I've shot it a few times, I just got a supply of moon clips in (Rimz and Ranch products)

Can't let this thread go idle!

Been on a tear lately adding to my 625 and 45 acp revolver collection. This includes another 625-2 model of 1988, a 625-4 5" NIB, another 625 Mountain Gun NIB, and a LNIB PC 625-8 :) each were under $800. I was blessed to come across an estate sale at one of my LGS and the prior owner was a stainless n frame aficionado. I'd like to think we would have been good friends if we ever met before he passed.

Question for the experts, while adding some new wood stocks for the 2 model of 1988s I have, I noticed different roll mark placements on them. Both are BEC serials and the numbers are close to each other, however one has a small roll mark under the cylinder release and the other has the large roll mark on the side plate. Did one precede the other? Photo for reference below (as well as the PC because why not).

Thanks in advance

I do have a big ol' 25-2 around here somewhere.

I am glad I got mine when I did. I like .45 A.C.P. in revolvers and pistols. Recently got a new Blackhawk 45 convertible . I use Rimz poly moon clips with the 625. Of course I have some metal clips and tools also. Bob

Just got some 45 ACP rounds - not enjoying loading full moon clips and likely will just keep using 45 Auto Rim brass.

My 625 really likes 255 grain cast and 6.5 grains of Longshot.

Get you some RIMZ polymer moonclips, loading and unloading 45 acp is super easy and convenient.
