I have a 625 pc that I was wondering about having the barrel cut down to as short as it can go with the extractor knob. has anyone heard of this being done on this gun. with these guns the barrel is longer into the frame for the shorter cylinder so i think a replacement would have to be exact type.
My goal would be something along the lines of snub nose .45 acps that were made from 1917's.
this would be for CC.

This particular gun never shot good out of the box, always to the right of aim, it just sits in the safe right now.

being from NJ selling and buying handguns is currently a pain in the ***. would rather just modify this one if a good gunsmith exists.

thanks

If you have a newer S&W 625 with the two piece barrel ,,you can't shorten the barrel.. Your best bet would be to replace your gun for an older S&W that has a one piece barrel that can be shortened,.Finding a gunsmith that works on revolvers that isn't swamped with work is hard,?. A few years back I contacted a well known gunsmith close to me about shorting a barrel and replacing the front sight,,I was put on a waiting list that would have them call me when they would want my gun sent to them ,( not to start work on it,,but just send it to them) and that list was an estimated 2 YEAR WAIT!!!. Needless to say,,I went another route.

Hey Tomahawk,
I am in NJ also. Is this the 625-8 with the contoured ejector rod shroud?

A 325 NG or PD are scandium framed 45 acps with 2 5/5" barrel. Before I chopped up a decent PC gun, I would get a Brazilian and chop it. In fact there is a decent looking one on the big auction site now that was chopped right in front of the lug.
