Model 639

I picked up a model 639 and a trade a while back. Any info on these would be appreciated.

The 639 is a 2nd Gen stainless steel 9mm single stack.

They were made from 1984-1988.

Is there any collector value of the 2nd generation Smith & Wessons?

Yes, there is some. Mostly for ANIB or excellent condition with box and docs.

wAwI picked a very used, early one up a few months ago. Lent someone money on it. I thought I was stuck with it when he disappeared. Cleaned it up big time and shot it, heavy as heck with a DA trigger to match but the more I shot it the more I liked it. I have spruced it up some more with new rosewood grips and a new recoil spring and now it's a favorite.

Collectable maybe not, might be some day as they are somewhat scarce and people that own one usually don't sell them.
