I came across this ad today and am wanting to buy this revolver:

"For Sale, Smith & Wesson model 64-3
.357 magnum stainless steel
4" barrel
holster marks on barrel and cylinder.
Price: $425"

I know the Model 64 was made in .38 Special, but I am not sure if they were made in .357 Mag. Can anyone better inform me on this?

There were a few 64-1s made in .357, but if this is a -3 it it not factory original in this chambering. The .38 Special cylinder is shorter (the one in the photo appears .357 length, with a correspondingly shorter forcing cone?), and the safety of converting one of these to .357 is debatable.

64

some of those were made for the Oklahoma state police at one time, I had one a long time ago I wish I had kept it.

I will be meeting with the seller on Saturday, so hopefully I will get a better understanding of the gun and be able to get it in my hands

Ok, so no surprise here, but they guy made a mistake. The gun is a Model 65-4, not a 64-3.

The number under the trigger is BFL2184.
Anyone have an idea of the year this gun was made

Also, is $425 still the correct valuation of the gun?

.... Model 65-4..... BFL2184.....

1990.

That's a good price, provided it's a good shooter in reasonable condition. I don't see a lot of .357 Magnums for under $500. Ex LEO with minor cosmetic issues would be fine, as long as it locks up tight on all cylinders.

I like Uncle Mike combat stocks. In fact, on a shooter, I prefer them over any other. For me, that would be an added bonus. It's possible they are original.
