I was handling my K frame 64-4 the other day and the dam yoke seem to slide away and come off from the frame with the cylinder attached. I never noticed this problem before? Is there some that should be holding this in. never seen this problem with any of my other revolvers. Any ideas? Send it back to S&W? The action seems fine when it is closed. Only when the cylinder is opened and the pistol is pointed downward will the yoke slide off.

Is the yoke screw in place and tight?

Holy crap! The yoke screw is missing!!! I can't seem to find it either. It must have fallen out and is MIA. Is it a simple screw back in part that I can order t from S&W or brownells? I never even noticed that screw was missing from the side of my revolver

not sure if the -4 revision is the standard yoke screw or the one with the spring loaded detent.

if not tightened properly, they will back out with extended firing.

if standard, it may have to be fitted for smooth cyl opening with the screw tight.

if spring loaded, then just tighten.

the correct SW screwdriver is needed to properly secure the screw w/o buggering up the slot.

I have used pipe dope with teflon (small dab on threads) to keep the screw from backing out.

Thanks CBQ. I will call S&W tomorrow and see what they say. I am hoping it is as easy as screwing it back in. I don't mind a buggered screw as this is a shooter anyway but it is one of my favorites. I don;t want to spend $50 each way to ship it back to S&W for a $2 part

if its the original yoke screw, I can tell you how to fit via email.

one way to tell if its original or the spring loaded,

the original will be the same size as the other exposed side plate screw and the spring loaded will be much larger in OD.

take care

Your 64-4 should have the newer style spring loaded plunger yoke retention screw. No fitting required. When you order, order three or four of them. They're not expensive and it's nice to have extras.....in case you loose another one or damage a slot sometime.

Great news..Just got off the phone with S&W and they are sending me a new screw for free!
