Chee-to, I sent you an E-mail, but it got blocked.
I noticed your 4" 64 doesn't appear to have a pinned barrel, can you give us the serial number for ship date purposes? Also the 2" looks to be tapered also what is it's serial number?

Here's another pic of the two 64s in question, the 4" standard barrel is a 64 no dash and is pinned, Ser# D525xxx, the 2" 64 is a tapered barrel, kinda hard to to pick up unless viewed from the top, Ser# BEK87xx

M64 "no dash" Pencil Barrels are one of my favorite S&W revolvers:

I also have a 2" M64 no dash to go with the three 4" Pencils.

The sight and base in that era was often forged as a part of the barrel. The same with many of the adjustable sight guns of the time, especially the stainless ones. That is why changing the front sights on some of them is so much more money: the original sight is ground or milled off, a slot or groove is cut in the base and the new sight blade is pinned into place after a hole is drilled.

Thanks for the education. It is fascinating to see the craftsmanship of the older Smiths. This particular gun has the tightest lock up of any of my Smiths. It rivals my Freedom Arms.
