Picked up a 657 w/a 3" barrel and combat grips this week cheap. Guys don't want .41 Magnums in the gun shops in rural Oregon. I'd use it for home defense except I'd never hear again if I lit it off in the House. Looking forward to shooting it at our range with the 58 I just picked up several weeks ago.

Congratulation on your new addition.

I love this little guy

I have had mine since finding it in a Pawn Shop back in 1991

I had to pay my Pawn Shop buddy $175 to take it off his hands.

It is now one of many 41 Magnum snubbies that I own/carry

Lucky you! I can't seem to find a 3" 657 around my neck of the woods, I've been looking for months!! Thanks for sharing the pics that's a nice one you have

Putting a search in to G**@#e Maps for a route to Oregon and planning to pack an inked signed FFL for shipping purposes.

Very nice looking revolver!

That is a nice gun...no matter what you paid they are a bargain.

Bought one brand new when the came out back around 1986... Sold it in the 90s at some point... Back around 2005 found two at the same gun store a few weeks apart and a friend had one he wanted to sell...so I had three at one point...

One went to a friend in Oregon, who still has it, one went on GunBroker and sold for over double what I paid for it and I still have the last one...

The one I kept had been carried quite a bit. Was missing the cylinder release thumb piece that I replaced with one of the flat bottom MIM type. The barrel had been Mag-Na-Ported but the original grips were mint... Since the one that was going to Oregon was mint but had the wrong grips on it I gave my friend the proper ones and put a set of more compact grips on mine. I did however luck into another set of Combat Special grips to put the gun back to original...

The gun is quite pleasant to shoot with most any 210 grain bullet with 8.0 grains of Unique...this duplicates the original factory 210 LSWC Police Load at 950 from a 4"... Winchester 175 Silvertip ammo and those loads made with the 180 Barnes Expander don't kick bad either.

If you are new to .41s here is plenty of reading for you...

Groo here
Also try 6 gr of Trailboss under a 210 gr cast boolet.
Mag primers work best, also heavy crimp.....

Just tonight I was shooting 6.0 grs of IMR 700X under a 220 gr bullet . I was shooting it out of my model 58 . A real sweet accurate shooting fairly mild recoil load that would serve well for most needs . I had never tried that load before , will be definitely loading up more .
I have had accuracy problems and leading barrel in the past with my 58 . I finally " fire lapped " the barrel . It took 12 rounds . At 20 yds the group size on a 4 shot string went from 5" down to 1.5" from a bench rest . You could see the groups shrinking with each 4 shot string . Tonight the barrel is very clean , finally ! Regards, Paul
