Looks like they were only made a couple years before they changed to a dash 1. I have several 57 no dash that are older all no dash pinned and recessed. I was not aware of the 657 no dash it is a 6" box papers, tools. Since I collect the 41 mag I could not pass it up even on Gunbroker. Not sure why they were late to the party on stainless. The 44 mag came out in stainless several years earlier when they were still pinned and recessed. Any comments? No pics yet.

Great guns...

The 629 while out sooner than the 657 was only P&R for one year till the -1...

As to 8 3/8"...had a pair at one time...and a pair of MGs...

I have the 4" 6" and 8 3/8" 629 no dash 44 mag. Just wondering why they didn't do the same with the 41 mag. Even the 657 no dash was only made a year or so. Looking forward to getting it.

...popularity and timing...

657 just didn't come out till a few years after S&W ended the P&R models..

The 4" only lasted a year and the 8 3/8" not much more. One run of the 3" and I think at something like 5500 there are more of them than the 4".

I always found my non die hard gun friends are most impressed by my nickel 8 3/8 nickel N frames. I like them to.
