I have a Model 659 that I have had for years. I was wondering if someone could help me with the ship date. My memory tells me I purchased it around 1988 or 89 but my memory lies to me all of the time. The serial number is TBW969x I substituted an 'x" for the last digit. I will include a few photos.

Do you have the original box with factory label? What's the Spec Order# ?

.
I did not get the box. I purchased this from a NC Highway Patrolman. I didn't even know that it was practically brand new. I think he was about to retire. It had a beautiful leather holster that has deteriorated almost beyond use. I have no idea what the Spec Order number is, or how to determine what it is.

Your Model 659 dates to about 1988 as member Tom Beckwith indicated. The serial# tables for S&W auto's are incomplete at best. 1988 would be the best guess without a factory historical letter.

That's some serious Saturday morning Smith semi-auto sweetness!

I carried a 659 for many years. A bit on the heavy side, but a high quality and high reliability pistol with a high capacity. Was one of my favorites but I was lured to the polymer side. As a EDC I like the .45 Shield best these days, but I always was fond of that all stainless 659.
