Nice looking gun you just found. Two weeks ago I obtained a 66-2, and after two brief range sessions it has become a favorite. The Model 66 has many fans on this forum and it's easily understood why.

I traded a kahr k9 for it, It just came from the s&w factory. They fixed a push off problem and made sure the gun was back to spec. It's got the factory's vote of approval. I love shooting my model 19-8 and im sure im going to love this gun as well.

Sir, I think you got the better end of that trade, enjoy your new revolver.

In picture #4 is the revolver on top a 4" round butt M-19? If so do you have any history on it or 4" R.B.'s in general? Thanks for your assistance.

Congrats on your 66-2. They are great shooters. A little Mother's Mag polish and she will look like new.
Regards,
Howard

I was told the the model 19 is a square butt in terms of ordering grips for it from hogue by my local gunshop. Not too shure though cause it reall does look like a round butt doesnt it. It is a 19-8 and was made for a brazilian police department and is also marked as a .38scp on the barrel instead of a .357 magnum. It does shoot .357 magnum however. Best i could gather from members here is that it is an oddity, who knows what the colitibility value will be, thats up to the lunatics on this board who just go crazy for s&w.

I think the Model 66 was some of S&W's best work. I have 66-2s in 4" and 6" and a 66-4 in 2-1/2"; I'd like to find a 3" at an affordable price to complete my collection but it's not a priority so I'm not up for paying almost a grand for a nice one.

I saw that one that sold on this site in two minutes for $500. Unfortunately, I saw it after it was spoken for.

Why do you want to polish your 66? To most collectors, any deviation from the factory finish devalues a gun like paint work does to a car. That Model 66 cannot be replaced with a new one and nice used ones become scarcer every day. Granted, you could always return it to S&W for refinishing if you ever wanted to but I would leave it alone unless it is scratched up and needs something done to it.

Ah I apparently didn't know what i was talking about, i was referring to those nice "polishing rags" that makes it look amazing till you touch it again. I'm not changing the finish.

I polished 66-2 and my 66 no dash. The bright finish looks better to me than the dull factory one. If you like it polished, polish it.

How does it shoot with those grips?
I'll find out next saturday. The grips feel real good though and seem like they'll hold my off hand low enough off the trigger guard so my knuckle won't get beat up if i decide to pick up a box of magnums for it.

I have a 66-2 and believe they are great pistols. I really enjoy the smooth trigger on them. My 66-2 is one of my favorite shooting pistols and my "go to" gun whenver I want to go to the range for a practive session. Two years ago my son competed with it to qualify for a law enforcement instructor school. I thought it was awsome that he used a pistol as old as he was and yet kicked butt and beat out a lot of european plastic in the process. I hope that you enjoy your 66-2 as much as I do mine.

Okay, i was asked how this gun shot with those grips, and this gun shot great. The last time i shot magnums was out of a model 19 with a round butt and these grips really seemed to help with recoil management. I was getting good with my glock so I'm kind of having to relearn how to shoot since these revolvers are different, i could tell i was improving and im going out again next weekend. Really love the way these 4" k frames handle and point, they sit in my hand very naturally.
The 2.5" feels very good and nimble in my hands, i think some similar style grips will really help me out and help me contain the magnums. A plus with those hogues is that they make the off hand sit lower and still give something to hold onto, with that hand sitting lower, the gun doesnt beat that knuckle up which is sooooooo nice.

These k frames are so nice, can't wait to expand the collection though.
