At a local gun shop there were a couple 66s I was interested in. A 66-1 and a 66 no-dash. The no dash was of interest because of the SS rear sight. Both guns were mechanically fine. The guns were stamped with the LGS name below the cylinder on the left side. Asked the sales clerk about it. He said they are required to do this on all used guns. They even have regulations as to where each gun is to be stamped. I check out dozens of gunshops a year and this is the first I have seen this. It would ruin a collectors piece. Has anyone else ever seen this.

Oh Good God thank you for Texas. I know things are different in PA, but they can't be that different? Surely there is a genuine, bonehead, IDIOT running that gun shop.
After a few trade ins of the same gun, they might run out of space for the stamp, lol. Did they say if it was store policy or some local government regulation?

Most likely confusing the import regulation that requires guns that are imported or returned to the U.S. to be stamped with the importers name.
Definitely not an April Fool's joke. The way the clerk explained it to me it sounded like a government thing. I will stop in tomorrow and get more details and pictures if allowed. I have bought several firearms from this store and never seen this before.

I have worked part time for 35 years in Pa. gunshops and have never heard of such a thing.May be CAI imports and a uninformed clerk. Arms brought into the country from overseas must be marked with the importers name etc.A picture may show an importers mark l would wager.

The guy is not of the truth. There are some M66 police trade ins on the market now and that is where they put their ID for the various departments. They have been selling on line for $399. Open up the cylinder and see if there is another number on the bottom of the cylinder window. Some have them some not. Aim surplus just sold out of them. Other sellers had them too. Don't overpay.
Luckily we don't have senseless regulations like that in Kansas!

Like Zipdog said; I have two former LEO revolvers, a 15-2 and a 66-1 both are marked with the agency on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. Maybe the store owner was confused about those markings?

mwr1 is correct. I talked to the smith there and he said they have to stamp all imports and returns to the U.S. Smith said he believes it started in 1986.
News to me............ maybe the owner is "advertising" ...you know; like auto dealers with stickers and plate holders....

This is not a PA law.
Now, you mention Sarco (Easton, PA I believe), that's a game changer. They are not your run-of-the-mill gun shop. They were at one time, and I suspect still are, importers of firearms. Federal law requires them to import mark the firearms they bring back into the States.
